Cooking Korean by MANNAM Cooking Class Ep#001 Greetings at the table

We've had various requests through this blog and many of them are about Korean cultures. Yes, it is very important to understand cultures, so we decided to share Korean cultures especially related to Korean cuisine with you.

Cooking Korean Episode #001

Today, we are going to practice how to greet at the table or how to show your appriciation to the ones who prepare food.
Before enjoying food, please say, "잘 먹겠습니다. Jal muk-get-seup-ni-dah." (If you watch the video, you will hear clear pronunciation of that :-) ) Jal means 'Well' and muk-get-seup-ni-dah means 'I'll eat/ have/ enjoy the food'. It is almost mantadory ^-^ to say this before having something in Korea. Showing appriciation and becoming humble is a big part of virtue in Korea.
After having food, before leaving the table, please say, "잘 먹었습니다. Jal muk-ut-seup-ni-dah." muk-ut-seup-ni-dah means I had this food. So Jal muk-ut-seup-ni-dah means I enjoyed this well(so much).
If you watch the video, you will meet one special teacher, David(Hyun Bin). He is a young member of MANNAM Cooking Class. This is his debut film :-)
From the basic to the advanced level, we are planning to share Korean cultures one by one.
Stay Tuned!
